Writing, Publishing & Media
Turning research and experience into engaging stories
Alongside his work in education, Oscar is an internationally published author and travel writer. Five of his titles are published by Bradt Guides. Bradt Guides is the world's largest independently owned guidebook publisher. Oscar currently has seven books available on Amazon, spanning travel writing, African country guidebooks and expedition narratives. His writing work requires many of the same skills that underpin effective education: cross-cultural understanding, research, source evaluation, synthesis, clear communication, adapting information for different audiences and turning complex material into something engaging and accessible.
His published work includes five Bradt travel guides and two books documenting major African river kayaking expeditions: Kayak The Kwanza and Kayak The Mangoky. A second edition of the Bradt Guide to Tunisia is currently in development for publication in summer 2027.

Oscar also runs the monetised Scafidi Travels YouTube channel, using film and digital storytelling to communicate history, geography, culture, travel and expedition experiences to an international audience. This experience feeds directly into his educational practice, particularly in visual communication, media literacy, storytelling, research and the creation of engaging learning materials.
