AI Integration & Curriculum

Whole-School AI Alignment

Scafidi Education helps international schools create a coherent, practical and academically responsible approach to AI across both student learning and staff practice.

The aim is to move schools beyond isolated experiments and inconsistent expectations towards a shared approach that aligns classroom practice, assessment design, academic integrity and institutional policy.

AI expectations are often inconsistent across schools

Students may be encouraged to use AI in one subject, discouraged from using it in another and given unclear guidance elsewhere. Staff may also have very different levels of confidence, understanding and practice. Without alignment, this creates confusion around assessment, academic integrity and responsible AI use.

Scafidi Education helps schools create clarity across grade levels, subjects, departments and professional practice.

A clear and consistent approach to student AI use

The student AI experience should be vertically aligned across grade levels and horizontally aligned across subjects and departments. Students should understand when AI use is appropriate, how it should be used and what both internal and external academic integrity policies require of them.

Vertical Alignment

Develop clear progression in AI expectations and responsibilities across grade levels.

Horizontal Alignment

Ensure students receive consistent guidance across different subjects and departments.

Task & Assessment Design

Review how tasks are written so that permitted, restricted and prohibited AI use is explicit.

AI Traffic Light System

Develop a simple and practical framework for communicating different levels of acceptable AI use.

Academic Integrity

Align classroom expectations with IB requirements and the school’s own academic integrity policies.

Deliberate, Skilful & Responsible AI Use

Support students in areas such as prompting, verification, attribution, critical evaluation and the responsible use of AI-generated material.

The goal is to ensure that students are not receiving contradictory messages about AI from different teachers, subjects or grade levels.

Building staff confidence, consistency and professional responsibility

Effective AI integration depends on staff understanding both how they can use AI professionally and how their students are already using it.

AI for Planning

Practical workshops on using AI for lesson planning, resource creation, differentiation and professional workflows.

Understanding Student AI Use

Help staff understand how students are using generative AI so they can make informed decisions about task design, supervision and support.

Academic Integrity Responsibilities

Clarify staff responsibilities under IB expectations and the school’s academic integrity policies.

Assessment Design

Support teachers in creating tasks that make AI expectations clear and maintain meaningful evidence of student learning.

Departmental Consistency

Help departments develop shared approaches rather than relying on individual teacher preferences.

Professional Judgement

Develop staff understanding of the opportunities, limitations and risks of generative AI in educational contexts.

The goal is to move schools away from isolated individual practice towards a shared, transparent and workable approach to AI.

From policy to classroom practice

Whole-school AI alignment should connect institutional policy with the everyday decisions made by teachers and students. Scafidi Education can support schools through a combination of consultancy, professional learning, curriculum review and practical implementation.

AI Policy & Alignment Review

Review current policies, expectations and classroom practice to identify gaps, inconsistencies and areas for development.

Professional Learning

Run practical workshops for staff, leadership teams and students.

Curriculum & Assessment Review

Review existing tasks, assessments and curriculum documentation for clarity around AI use.

Implementation Tools

Support the development of practical resources such as AI Traffic Light systems, staff guidance, student guidance and shared departmental expectations.

Grounded in real international-school implementation

At ICS Addis, Oscar Scafidi’s work has included running an AI Pilot Program in the 2025-26 academic year, designing and implementing professional learning sessions for all Secondary Staff and all Middle School students, and vertically aligning AI expectations with High School teams.

Clarity for students. Consistency for staff. Alignment across the school.

A successful AI framework should mean that students know what is expected of them, teachers apply expectations consistently, departments are aligned and school policy is reflected in everyday teaching and assessment practice.

Students know when and how AI can be used

Teachers understand their responsibilities

Departments apply consistent expectations

School policy connects directly to classroom practice
